Democrats and some conservative commentators have called for invoking the 25th Amendment to remove Trump.
After President Donald Trump recently threatened that “all civilization will die tonight and never rise again,” Democrats are calling for the 25th Amendment to be invoked to remove the president. Former Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene posted: “America did not drop a single bomb. We cannot wipe out an entire civilization. This is evil and insane.” “We need to invoke the 25th Amendment and remove Trump. Threatening war crimes is a flagrant violation of our Constitution and the Geneva Conventions,” Democratic lawmaker Rokana He added that what the president did was a moral crime, and if Congress is still alive, every member of Congress should call on Trump to step down because Trump has shown disrespect for all the people of Iran, Gaza, and Cuba. “The 25th Amendment needs to be invoked. He is a genocidal lunatic. Our Congress and military need to intervene. We are beyond madness,” Candace Owens posted. Conservative commentator Alex Jones also called for passage of the 25th Amendment. “This is a terminally ill man. Every Republican who refuses to join us in voting against this wanton war on choice, whatever it is, will face all the consequences,” Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer posted. “Disgustingly evil. Donald Trump must be impeached. When will my Republican colleagues grow the thorns to remove him from office?” Ilhan Omar wrote. “An entire civilization will die tonight and never be resurrected. I don’t want that to happen, but it might happen. However, now that we have a complete and total regime change, and different, smarter, less radical people prevail, maybe some revolutionary and wonderful things will happen…” Trump posted.
What is the 25th Amendment?
The 25th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution deals with what happens when the President or Vice President is unable to hold office. The act was approved in 1967 after events such as the assassination of President Kennedy raised concerns. If the president dies, resigns, or is removed from office, the vice president becomes president.
