Google Meet launches on Apple CarPlay ahead of Android Auto

iPhone owners can now join work meetings directly from their car’s dashboard, Google has rolled out a nifty new update for Apple CarPlay users. Announced earlier, this is a big deal as it arrives in Apple’s ecosystem ahead of Google’s own Android Auto. It focuses on driver safety by eliminating distractions from work audio or video calls. Users can click to join scheduled meetings, check calendars for upcoming meetings, and chat hands-free through their car speakers.

For the past seven years, I’ve tracked consumer technology through the constant changes in hardware, platforms, and the way people actually use their devices. Covering everything from budget gear to flagship hardware, I focus on what readers need to know, not buzzwords or release cycle hype. My expertise spans gaming laptops and gaming chairs, high-performance computers, gaming monitors, printers, smartwatches, headphones, headsets, Bluetooth speakers, tablets, and more, with a special focus on how these products perform in daily use. Reviews, explainers, buying guides, and news stories all have a common goal: to provide readers with enough detail to make a confident decision rather than wading through nonsense. Outside of deadlines, I spend a lot of time playing games, watching movies, and anime, which naturally flows into work. Performance, comfort, display quality and sound are judged on how players and viewers experience it, not just lab data, which grounds my coverage in real-life scenarios, not just benchmarks.

It’s super easy and quick to use: Just launch CarPlay, tap the Meet tile, and tap to join the meeting. You can mute, switch calls, or leave the call, but there are no chat, poll, or screen sharing options, and the camera remains off. It extracts audio from the iPhone’s microphone and works on iPhones running iOS 17 or later. It works for personal accounts and workspace accounts, but it may take about 15 days to show up everywhere as this is not a global rollout.

Android Auto users will have to wait for this feature to make its way to their ecosystem – it’s coming soon, but no exact date has been confirmed yet. As remote work booms, Google prioritizes secure, mobile productivity. This could change the way professionals everywhere commute, and as Android catches up, in-car meetings could become the norm without compromising safety.

Meanwhile, Android Auto is already shaking up Microsoft Teams with audio calling, hinting at what’s next for Meet. Mercedes-Benz’s 2026 CLA sedan ups the ante with in-car Teams cameras (which turn off video while driving) and chat features. CES 2026 showcased Garmin’s AI pod, equipped with a multi-screen Android operating system that enables voice commands and personalized audio. In-car offices are heating up quickly, with more hybrid work techniques set to emerge this year.
