New Delhi: Congress leader Pawan Hera poses a series of questions to Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his wife Riniki Bhuyan Sharma sought clarification on what was disclosed in the official affidavit.Keira also said he would provide more evidence in the coming days as controversy intensifies ahead of the state legislative vote.Speaking to reporters, he further questioned why the Assam chief minister allegedly withheld details of overseas properties related to his wife in official disclosures.“Do they deny that they don’t have property in Dubai? Do they deny that they don’t have companies in the United States? Do they deny that they don’t have shell companies anywhere in the world? We’re bringing more evidence every day. A lot is coming. Why did he conceal a property owned by his wife in Dubai in his election affidavit? ” he said.The remarks came as a political row escalated into a war of words, with Himanta announcing legal action against Congress leaders.
Salma denies accusations, announces defamation case
Responding to the allegations on Sunday, Himanta Biswa Sarma refuted all the accusations as “malicious” and “politically motivated” and said both he and his wife would pursue legal action.“I categorically reject every accusation made by him. These are malicious, fabricated and politically motivated lies designed to mislead the people of Assam,” he wrote in a post on X.He further added: “My wife and I will initiate criminal and civil defamation proceedings against Shri Pawan Khera within the next 48 hours. He will take full responsibility for his reckless and defamatory statements.”Sarma expressed confidence in the legal process: “I have full confidence in the judiciary. Once the truth is found out in court, Shri Pawan Khera will face the consequences of his actions and due process of law will be taken. “
Kayla’s allegations and investigative demands
During the press conference, Keira made multiple accusations, including those related to foreign properties, shell companies and passport holdings linked to the chief minister’s family.He asked: “What is the need for Himanta Biswa Sarma’s wife to hold three passports? Are you some kind of criminal? Does Himanta herself have more such passports somewhere? Is this a preparation for running away after losing the election?”He also claimed financial ties to foreign shell companies, saying: “Himanta Biswa Sarma parked funds in shell companies established in Wyoming. Why Wyoming? Since there are no taxes… this is a known place for people to hide their property. “Calling for an inquiry, Khera said: “When will Amit Shah set up an SIT to investigate? When will CEC Gyanesh Kumar realize that the information was hidden in the affidavit?”He further claimed: “Himanta’s wife Rinki Bhuyan Sarma owns a company in Wyoming, USA. The list of members of the company includes Rinki Bhuyan Sarma, Himanta Biswa Sarma and their sons.”The controversy arose after Keira alleged that Riniki Bhuyan Sharma holds multiple foreign passports and has business and property connections abroad including Dubai and the United States.However, Salma denied the claims and pointed to “serious discrepancies” in documents cited by Hera that suggested possible fabrication or manipulation. He maintained that the charges were part of a politically motivated campaign ahead of the Assam assembly elections.
