Lindsey Graham says America is very close to strategic victory and Trump was right to blow up Iran’s critical infrastructure so they can’t go back to their old ways
Senator Lindsey Graham, who has supported Donald Trump’s war with Iran, said on Monday that the United States was very close to achieving a strategic victory. The South Carolina senator congratulated the president’s negotiating team and said President Trump was “right to blow up its critical infrastructure” so that Iran cannot go back to its old ways. The senator called Iran an evil regime and said Iran was cheating at every turn, and the United States would ensure that control of the Strait of Hormuz did not belong to Iran. “One of the things that cannot be allowed to happen with regard to the Strait of Hormuz is that the Iranian regime barely survives because it controls the Strait and is holding the world to ransom,” Graham said. “What must be clear is that when this war ends – whether through diplomacy or military action – control of the Strait of Hormuz does not belong to Iran.”Graham, who went from enemy to friend during the war, said not even an ounce of uranium should be allowed in Iran. “Under 43 years of President Bush’s leadership, the United States was allowed to go in and dismantle Libya’s nuclear facilities and enrichment capabilities and remove all enriched uranium. Iran should follow this model because we cannot allow any highly enriched uranium to remain in the country because it will either become a dirty bomb or potentially enriched into weapons-grade material in the future. When it comes to Iran and the enrichment deal, they always cheat,” he said. “President Trump is right to insist that any negotiated deal is consistent with our military and strategic objectives. If Iran hesitates, he is right to blow up their critical infrastructure so they cannot go back to their old ways.”“This war must end somehow — whether through diplomacy or military action — to prevent Iran from repeating the mistakes of the past. If we achieve this outcome, a previously unimaginable doorway to peace will open in the Middle East. We are very close to achieving strategic victory. Let’s get the job done,” he added. Trump called the proposal for a 45-day ceasefire with Iran a “big step” but said it was “not good enough.” “They put out a proposal, and it’s an important proposal. It’s an important step. It’s not good enough, but it’s a very important step,” Trump told reporters of the draft proposed by countries working to end the war.
