new delhi: former indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer Come out on Monday to support the former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singhwho recently revealed that he had received no clear communication from his then-captain Virat Kohlihead coach Ravi Shastri and the selectors as he reflects on his retirement. In a recent interview with Sports Tak, Yuvraj, who has played 40 Tests, 304 ODIs and 58 T20Is, said that he was not getting proper communication from Kohli and Shastri and had to contact MS Dhoni about his future.Jaffer, who played alongside Yuvraj in the X-match, backed the all-rounder and criticized the Indian team management, BCCI and selectors.“Earlier players used to find out through newspapers whether their careers were over or not and although things have improved when it comes to communication, it’s not right if a big player like @YUVSTRONG12 who won two World Cups in India says he didn’t get communication. Communication should be there. #Indiancricket,” Jaffer said.
What did Yuvraj say?Yuvraj talks about the confusion he faced towards the end of his career.“For example, when I was going through my situation, I had zero clarity. There was no clarity from the National Cricket Academy, there was no clarity from the captain or the coach. I was stuck at 36, about to turn 37, not knowing what to do next. At least, if someone has played that much cricket, they should be respected,” he said.“I think people who are at the end of their careers need clarification. I didn’t get it, Zaheer Khan didn’t get it, Virender Sehwag or Harbhajan Singh. The captain, coach or selector, whoever it is, should sit with the players and explain how they see things,” he added.Dhoni provides him with a clear and honest perspective during this uncertain phase.“I spoke to Dhoni ma’am. We spoke on phone. He gave me the right perspective. He didn’t get any benefit but he could see what was happening,” Yuvraj shared. Even so, he still insisted on making his own decision. “I was told that if I couldn’t pass the fitness test, I should consider retirement. I said I would make my own decision about my retirement,” he revealed.Yuvraj last played for India against West Indies in June 2017 and announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket in 2019.
