KOLKATA: A brawl broke out on Saturday after a viral video purportedly showed an Election Commission official in Panihati constituency in suburban Kolkata preparing campaign materials for the BJP, leading the TMC to demand his removal and legal action ahead of the elections.The Trinamool lodged a complaint against divisional officer Atanu Chakraborty with the state’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), accusing him of violating norms and compromising the required neutrality of election staff. The complaint cites a video circulating on social media that purportedly shows Chakraborty sorting out BJP flags and pamphlets.TMC MP Derek O’Brien, in a letter to the CEO, alleged that the officer had violated the model code of conduct and other regulations governing the conduct of election officers by engaging in activities related to the BJP. Seeking urgent intervention, party workers urged that Chakraborty be stripped of all voting duties and face strict legal action as “his conduct poses a serious threat to free and fair elections”.
