A meeting of top national security officials suggested the situation could evolve quickly involving a downed plane F-15 Iranian fighter jets and subsequent search and rescue operations for the second crew member.
While details remain limited, Fox News reports that Donald Trump’s national security team has gathered in the West Wing and has been updating the president throughout the day on the downed U.S. plane.
Meanwhile, officials in Washington are taking a day off to celebrate Good Friday before Easter week and the long weekend. However, Fox News reported “a lot of activity” in the West Wing.
The New York Times previously reported that an Air Force F-15E was shot down over Iran at approximately the same time as an A-10 Warthog attack aircraft crashed near the Strait of Hormuz. The New York Times sources report that the sole pilot on board the A-10 Warthog has been successfully rescued.
