Lahore Qalandars opener challenged match referee Roshan Mahanama’s penalty but the three-member committee dismissed the appeal after scrutinizing the evidence. “Fakhar Zaman appeals against the match referee’s decision to suspend him for two PSL matches for breaching Article 2.14 of the applicable Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel during the Lahore Qalandars vs. Kachi Kings match at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Sunday, March 29,” a PCB press release said. The appeal was heard by a technical committee comprising Professor Javed Malik, Dr Mumraiz Naqshband and Syed Ali Naqi, who re-examined the case before rendering its verdict. “The PSL Technical Committee heard the appeal today… Based on conducting a re-investigation, reviewing all evidence and hearing from the individuals involved, the committee dismissed the appeal and upheld the two-match ban imposed by match referee Roshan Mahanama,” the release added. The charge relates to Article 2.14, which relates to “altering the condition of the ball in violation of Article 41.3 of the PSL Conditions of Play”. According to the regulations, the penalty for a third-level violation is a minimum one-game suspension and a maximum two-game suspension. The incident occurred in the final stages of the match against Karachi Kings when the on-field referee awarded five points to Lahore Quurandars and five points to the opponents. The ball was also put back before the final. The complaint was lodged by referees Shahid Saikat and Faisal Khan Aafreedi, as well as TV referee Asif Yaqoob and fourth umpire Tariq Rasheed. Fakhar denied the allegations and opted for a formal hearing, where he presented his case in the presence of team officials including captain Shaheen Shah Afridi, team director Samien Rana and manager Farooq Anwar. However, with the committee’s decision now becoming final and binding, Fakhar will miss Lahore Qalandars’ upcoming matches against Multan Sultans in Lahore on April 3 and Islamabad United in Karachi on April 9.
