Nancy Mettell Bowen was found dead in her Florida home. The husband was charged with murder.
Coral Springs, Florida, Deputy Mayor Nancy Metayer-Bowen was found dead at her home after police were called around 10 a.m. Wednesday. When police arrived, they found the deputy mayor dead and determined the incident was domestic in nature. Her husband, Stephen Bowen, was detained and charged with premeditated murder and tampering with fabricated evidence. According to reports, Nancy was shot and killed, an incident that shocked the Metayer family, who had only been missing their son for three months. Nancy Meyer’s brother, Donovan Joshua Leigh Meyer, committed suicide on December 15. Joshua has been battling schizophrenia for the past seven years. He is a survivor of the 2018 fatal school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland.“On behalf of our entire family, we are deeply saddened by the passing of my beloved sister Nancy Metayer-Bowen,” the family said in a statement on her Instagram page. “She was not only a cherished member of our family, but also a dedicated public servant who worked to improve the lives of others.”“While many know her as a leader and advocate, we know her as a sister, a daughter and a friend whose warmth and laughter filled every room,” the statement said. “Her legacy will live on not only in the policies she helped shape, but also in the countless lives she touched. We are grateful for the support and kindness shown during this difficult time. As we mourn her passing, we also celebrate her extraordinary life and the lasting impact she left behind.” Metaye, 38, became the first Black woman elected to the Coral Springs Board of Commissioners in 2020. She serves as Florida Caribbean Voting Director during the 2024 presidential election. Rep. Jared Moskowitz posted on “She was a kind, caring person and a true leader in the community.
