Will JPMorgan Chase offer prediction market services to clients? CEO Jamie Dimon says company will steer clear of sports and politics

JPMorgan Chase & Co., one of the world’s largest banks and a leading global financial services company, is exploring the possibility of getting into prediction markets, with CEO Jamie Dimon saying the bank may expand into the area while setting clear limits on how far it can go.In an interview with “CBS Nightly News” anchor Tony Dokoupil, Dimon said the bank is considering offering prediction market services to clients, mentioning platforms such as Kalshi and Polymarket. These platforms allow users to place bets on a variety of outcomes, including sporting events and elections.“We may do something similar one day,” Dimon said, suggesting the idea is under consideration rather than a confirmed plan. He made it clear that JPMorgan would avoid certain areas, adding, “We’re not going to get into sports. We’re not going to get into politics. There’s a lot of things we’re not going to do.” He also stressed that any such offering would be under strict controls, particularly around inside information. In the interview, Dokoupil asked whether prediction markets should be considered a form of gamble or investment. Dimon responded that they were largely similar to gambling, but acknowledged there were exceptions. “I think to a large extent it’s more like gambling,” he said, adding that in some cases it can be viewed as investing when the participants have good knowledge and effectively take positions based on informed judgment.Dimon said he is not opposed to gambling in general, noting that it is widespread in various countries. However, he drew the line at harmful behavior, saying he was opposed to it when it became a life-damaging addiction. Describing his personal stance, he added that individuals should have the freedom to make their own choices, as long as they are held accountable for their actions.
