Nancy Guthrie Probe

Nancy Guthrie, the mother of “Today” co-host Savannah Guthrie, was last seen at her home near Tucson. ArizonaOn January 31st, he was reported missing on February 1st. Authorities suspected the 84-year-old had been kidnapped and found her blood on her front porch.

Last month, the FBI released doorbell camera surveillance footage that showed a masked man described as a suspect outside Guthrie’s front door the night she disappeared. Since then, however, investigators have been unable to identify a suspect or share any significant developments in the case with the public.

Dr. Richard Carmona slams Chris Nanos: ‘That’s not what a sheriff does’

On Friday’s episode of NewsNation’s Brian Entin Investigative Show, former U.S. Surgeon General and former Pima County Sheriff Dr. Richard Carmona told National Senior Correspondent Brian Entin that Nanos made a huge mistake by personally announcing the reopening of the crime scene at Nancy’s residence in Catalina Foothills.

“This is not what a peace officer should do,” Carmona said. “The lead detective said we can now open this area as we have determined that all necessary evidence has been photographed, bagged, tagged etc.”

Problem with pizza delivery

Carmona further questioned the pizza delivery at the outset of the investigation. “If you were to go to court and file a lawsuit, the defense attorney would say, ‘The crime scene was compromised — someone delivered pizza,'” the former sheriff said. “‘How do we know this is real evidence?'”

He continued: “Once it’s corroded, that’s it.”

Pima County Sheriff defends his team

at the same time, pima county Sheriff Chris Nanos said in an interview with KVOA on Monday that he supports the department managers on the Nancy Guthrie case and that he has no regrets about his team and their efforts. “I do not regret the speed with which we allowed the crime scene to occur, just that in the meantime investigators and Guthrie’s family continue to urge anyone with information about her disappearance to come forward,” he said.
