Iran claimed on Wednesday that it had shot down a U.S. fighter jet in the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Iranian state media Press TV shared a video on X showing the apparent crash. In the video, a jet (which Iran claimed was an American F-18) was “successfully” shot down. When Iranian media shared the video, they said: “Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it had successfully targeted an American F-18 fighter jet.”Just hours earlier, Iran rejected a U.S. “ceasefire” offer and warned that attacks would continue until their own demands were met. A senior official told Press TV that Iran rejected the 15-point US proposal, saying any ceasefire could only occur on its “own terms and timetable.” “Iran has said it will end the war when it decides to end it, not when Trump envisions it ending,” the official added. Tehran’s conditions include a halt to attacks, guarantees against future conflicts, compensation for war losses, an end to hostilities on all fronts and recognition of its sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz. Lieutenant Colonel Ibrahim Zolfahari warned: “Don’t disguise your failure as an agreement. Your days of empty promises are over.”As for shooting down a U.S. plane, Iran also claimed on Sunday that it intercepted and shot down an “enemy” F-15 fighter jet flying near Hormuz Island. Iran’s Air Defense Command said it intercepted an enemy fighter jet hours ago near the country’s southern coast and around the island of Hormuz and fired surface-to-air missiles at it, state media reported, and an investigation was underway to determine what happened to the plane.
