“Sheridan Gorman’s murder is a tragedy and her perpetrators must be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law,” Pritzker wrote on
Chicago police quickly arrested Medina on charges including first-degree murder. Authorities used facial recognition software to compare images from surveillance footage to U.S. Customs and Border Protection records. CPD investigators said in the arrest report that the images matched Medina’s.
“There’s blood on your hands”
According to court records, a warrant was issued for Medina’s arrest in 2023 after he stopped appearing in court on a shoplifting charge. Federal officials say Medina is an undocumented Venezuelan citizen who should never have been released after his arrest in 2023.
Pritzker was slammed in the comments section of his post. He also faced calls to resign.
“The only reason you posted this is because you know you have blood on your hands! You and your sanctuary! You and your refusal to cooperate with ICE! You love illegal immigrants more than Americans! Please forgive our fake condolences! May you rest in peace,” one user wrote. Another user wrote: “Sheridan Gorman’s family should file a multi-million dollar lawsuit against the city of Chicago and the state of Illinois. An example needs to be set. If you declare your jurisdiction a sanctuary, you are responsible for the actions of those you allow asylum.” While another user wrote, “The person responsible is an illegal immigrant with a criminal record that you hid from ICE.”

“You have blood on your hands. Your policy is triggered. Resign immediately,” one user wrote, while another said, “You are responsible. You and your safe zone laws protect criminals, especially college campuses. You will not get away with this.” One user wrote: “Why do you continue to support sanctuary policies that allow this repeat offender to go out into the community instead of being detained by ICE? Take responsibility.”
“Somehow I don’t think your condolences are welcome…I hope her family explores every possible legal avenue and sues your administration,” one user said. Another wrote, “Oddly I don’t see you apologizing for being responsible for her murder…maybe that will come with your announcement to ban Illinois sanctuary cities, you know “hold (people) accountable.”
“JB Pritzker is 100% responsible for what happened to Sheridan. “We don’t need ICE here, it’s not helping anyone,” Sheridan is still alive today. This is the same place you said she was killed by illegal immigrants. Resign immediately,” one user said.
