A banner hanging from a 9/11 memorial promoting a new Islamic zone has been removed from a Bay Area cemetery after community outcry.NBC Bay Area reports that the owner of Memorial Gardens Cemetery, who recently sold part of his property to a Muslim family, said he “allowed them to put up signs but did not authorize them to cover the 9/11 devices with the signs.”“The owner has reportedly removed the sign, but community residents say it should never have been erected in the first place.NBC Bay Area reports that Danny Kimmel, a resident of Concord, Calif., said an advertising banner for the Islamic Memorial Garden hanging at the 9/11 Memorial was placed in front of the cemetery where his mother is laid to rest.“I just felt like it was punched in the gut,” he said, according to the report. “I thought it was a little crazy to see the sign on the monument.”Kimmel, whose brother was killed in Vietnam, said his mother would be completely against hanging the banner.“She wouldn’t just roll over – she would stand up and walk,” he said.Danny Kimmel’s sister-in-law, Violet Kimmel, shares the same concerns.“There’s room for everyone, but be respectful of where you put your stuff.”
