Won’t the Iran War end soon? Treasury Secretary Bessant says the U.S.

The United States has “ample funds to finance” a war with Iran, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant said on Sunday, claiming President Donald Trump kept “all options” open in the ongoing Middle East conflict.Bessant defended the administration’s actions in an interview with NBC News, saying Trump acted within his legal authority. “President Trump has the authority under the War Powers Act to initiate this action, and we actually have enough money now to fund this war. What we’re doing is just supplemental,” he said.He added: “President Trump has strengthened the military as he did in his first term, and just as he is doing now in his second term, he wants to ensure that the military is fully supplied into the future.”Earlier, Trump said his administration might seek about $200 billion in additional funding from the Pentagon during the war, calling it a “small price” to maintain U.S. military readiness. Speaking in the Oval Office, he said the funds would help ensure military superiority and denied there was a weapons shortage.“We made a lot of arguments, even beyond what we were talking about on Iran… particularly the munitions — on the high end, we have a lot of it, but we’re keeping it,” Trump said.U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth also confirmed that the Pentagon plans to request additional funds from Congress to support ongoing operations and replenish inventories. “As for $200 billion, I think that number is obviously subject to change. It costs money to kill bad guys,” Hegseth said, referring to operations under Operation Epic Fury against Tehran.Bessant stressed that the government will maintain strategic ambiguity. “He’s not going to give up on what we’re going to do. As President Trump always does, he’s going to put all options on the table,” he added. The remarks come amid an escalating conflict following the joint US-Israeli attack on Iran on February 28, triggering Tehran to carry out retaliatory attacks on Israel and US-related targets in the region, disrupting major shipping routes and affecting global energy markets.
