According to investigators, Ramsey shooting while hosting an open house at her Auckland townhouse. A Rottlund Homes employee spotted her after hearing a commotion and alerted police. She was 27 at the time and her cause of death had long been unsolved.

A photo of Ramsay from Dallas County Jail. An inmate search revealed the woman had blond hair and was wearing an orange jumpsuit. It noted her bond was set at $2 million.
Another photo of Ramsay was circulated online by multiple media figures. In the photo, Ramsay faces the camera and has the same blond hair. However, in this case, she was wearing a dark jacket.

Today, West Des Moines police arrested 53-year-old Kristin Ramsey and charged her with first-degree murder. In the meantime, Oakland is remembered by many. Josh Oakland, her brother, once told In 2025 KCCI marked the 14th anniversary of his sister’s death, “When I think back to the last time I saw her, yes, 14 years feels like a long time.”
He added, “We spent the whole afternoon together on April 7th. Her real estate career was booming and she hired me as her assistant to do little things for her, make brochures. So we sat at Panera in Ankeny for four hours and she was training me, but, yeah, I’ll never forget that day. No. Not at all. And we were very close. If something happened, she would tell me.”
On April 8, Oakland was killed.
Her brother added: “I am so proud to be her brother. She impacted so many people in such a positive way and was a great role model in her short life of 27 years. Her legacy will live on forever.”
