Wanted fugitive killed by Dallas police reportedly worked as Jasmine Crockett's security guard: Report

A man shot and killed by Dallas police earlier this week was a familiar figure to North Texas law enforcement and was part of U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett’s security staff, CBS News Texas reported, citing sources.Multiple law enforcement sources told CBS News Texas that the man, known publicly as Mike King, used an alias while running a business that used police officers to do off-duty work.King was killed Wednesday night after a standoff with a Dallas police SWAT team. Police said he fled into a hospital parking lot, locked himself in his car, was driven out with tear gas and then pointed a gun at police.Sources said he was wanted for impersonating a law enforcement officer and claimed he was operating “Off-Duty Police Services,” an online platform that connects North Texas police officers with off-duty work. Authorities have not released his real name.Images obtained by CBS News Texas show King standing next to Crockett at events and campaign stops during Crockett’s recent bid for a U.S. Senate seat. He oversaw security teams at several downtown Dallas hotels and at his church, sources said.Law enforcement sources also said King drove a replica undercover police car and used license plates stolen from outside a military recruiting office. His background includes a criminal record, sources said, raising questions about how he managed the extra work for police and secured senior security positions for sitting members of Congress.Documents obtained by CBS News Texas show that a man named Mike King received payments from Crockett for “security services” as recently as last year.
