A large tornado was spotted Tuesday near Aroma Park in Kankakee County, Illinois. Videos of tornadoes on the ground surfaced on social media. Radar showed the storm moving toward Hopkins Park and Sun River Terrace. Reports circulating on social media also indicate that the dangerous storm is producing large hailstones, with some stones reportedly as big as apples.

The tornado sightings came as nearby Putnam and Layout counties remained under a severe thunderstorm warning.
According to the latest alert from the National Weather Service (NWS), “At 6:42 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm developed over Dover or near Princeton, moving northeast at 45 mph. This was a devastating storm for Interstate 80 in Princeton, Illinois and Bureau County.”
Affected locations include Princeton, Hennepin, Spring Valley, Depp, Ladd, Wyant, Sheffield, Tiskillwa, Lamoille, Dalzell, Buda, Broxham, Ohio, Cherry, Neponset, Malden, Manlius, Setonville, Arlington and Dover.
The warning also covers parts of the following highways:
- Illinois Interstate 80 between mile markers 43 and 72.
- Interstate 180 between mile markers 2 and 13
