New Delhi: There were celebrations, laughter, tears, dancing, bhangras, hugs and high-fives among the Indian players after India beat New Zealand in the final to win the 2026 T20 World Cup at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. This is India’s third T20 World Cup title, having previously won it in 2007 under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni and in 2024 under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma.After India won the final, Ardeep SinghNot taking a wicket in the title race, he was seen spinning with his teammates, including the head coach Gautam Gambhir. He playfully teased his teammates and support staff.
Arshdeep posted a video with Gambhir. He turned his phone camera towards the head coach and teased him: “Paaji, Kader has vi leya karo yaar (brother, you should smile sometimes).”Arshdeep’s playful remarks made the normally serious Gambhir laugh.In another video with Sanju Samson, Arshdeep said: “Justice mil gaya (Justice finally).” India wrote history by becoming the first team to win the T20 World Cup on home soil and the first team to win three T20 World Cup trophies.With this victory, the captain Suryakumar Yadav Overtaking former captain Rohit Sharma to become the best win-win ratio for an Indian captain in T20Is.Under the leadership of Suryakumar, the Indian team played a total of 52 games, winning 42 and losing 8, of which two games ended in vain, with a winning rate of 80.77.After India’s record-breaking third T20 World Cup win, skipper Surya reflected on the importance of mental toughness, team understanding and off-field preparation in building a championship culture. He also emphasized that the most important thing is to be true to yourself.Talking about the lessons learned during his career, Surya emphasized that failure is an inevitable part of sports.“It’s important to understand that in sports, you definitely fail more times than you succeed. I mean, he’s definitely seen that in his career. I saw that last year, in 2025. That whole year, I got Less than 50. It took me over 400 days to get 50 in India. But that’s what I tell the kids, there are definitely going to be ups and downs in sports,” he said while addressing the media at a press conference.For Surya, success comes not only from technical skills but also from character, discipline and the development of trust within the team.“You have to understand, you have to respect the sport. You have to try to spend time with all the good people around you. That’s more important. Be true to yourself. When you get up in the morning or get ready for bed, you can’t fool the person in the mirror,” he added.He also stressed the importance of understanding teammates’ personalities, strengths and weaknesses and building confidence through personal connections and freedom of expression.“So, those little things you do off the field, I think when we get on the field, it actually gives you a lot of confidence, it gives them a lot of composure. Also, I feel like you need to understand every role on the team. Everybody is different. They bring different skills. So, you need to talk to them, understand their temperaments, get to know them. That’s actually really important and that’s what we’ve done over the last year and a half, two years,” the captain said.
